Welcome to our Website and welcome to our lake. Big Bald Lake is located in the Kawarthas Lakes region; just 25 minutes' drive North of Peterborough, Ontario. It's a small, secluded lake set in pines and granite - the classic profile of an ideal and idyllic setting in this part of the world. We are on the Trent-Severn Waterway and Big Bald Lake is actually a dead end of the Northeastern reach of Pigeon Lake. Nature abounds in and around our waterways, and it is not uncommon to see a mink fish along the shoreline, a great blue heron float by to perch on your dock, or hear the scream of an osprey as it soars above you to scold its young to stay in the nest. Bass, crappie, the odd pickerel and muskellunge lurk on the weed bottoms. Deer, foxes, the odd bear, racoons (the country-type!), wild turkey, and a gazillion chipmunks inhabit the area and, if you're lucky, you'll see the occasional turtle. |

The coming of fall is marked by the commanding honks of flocks of Canada geese gathering in the quiet bays as they prepare for their Southern migration. And, of course, the fall colours are simply magnificent. There are approximately 260 homes on the shores of Big Bald Lake , both full time residents and cottagers. The Big Bald Lake Cottagers Association represents the homeowners in preserving and protecting our local environment and in bringing people together socially. We were formed in the early 1990s and were incorporated in 2001. Through our many volunteers we are currently pursuing initiatives to protect the quality of the lake and to ensure that all development and land use in the area is appropriate and is properly planned and controlled. Named over 100 years ago by First Nations people, “Kawarthas” means “bright waters and happy land”. Our aim is to keep it that way. Thank you for visiting our website. Feel free to browse and contact us if you have any questions or comments. Rob Arkell President, Big Bald Lake Cottagers Association Inc. |
