CFRAD is hosting a meeting on Saturday, February 14th at 9:30 a.m. Meeting will be at the Bobcaygeon Service Centre (the municipal building across the street from the Legion, on the corner of King and East streets). The appellants will be providing up-to-date information and response to the recent OMB decision on the Dewdney Mountain Farms mega quarry. February 10\15

OMB Quarry Appeal Hearing Results

The OMB has presented its findings regarding the proposed quarry by Dewdney Mountain Farms Ltd. on Ledge Road. See article below for background.

Much of the objections stated by the appellants were opinion rather than evidence; where evidence was submitted, it was frequently not supported by witness testimony, therefore not accepted; and where evidence was submitted and substantiated, the proposed site plan amendments addressed the concerns.

You may read the 41 page ruling in its entirety here. The conclusion and ruling can be found on pages 40 & 41.

OMB Quarry Appeal

Dewdney Mountain Farms Ltd. received municipal approval in 2012 for a 432 acre, Class A, Category 4, quarry and concrete plant just outside of Bobcaygeon. The Citizens for Responsible Aggregate Development (CFRAD) launched an appeal. The Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) hearing, which started on May 20, 2014, concluded on August 19, 2014. There was a great deal of public interest and support at the O.M.B. hearing. We will keep you posted on the decision.

There are many issues surrounding this proposed quarry. It will be 180m from Provincially Significant Wetland (The Nogies Creek Subwatershed) which was not taken into consideration as it is 60 metres out of the assessment area used by the MNR. This area is a Provincial Fish Sanctuary where Muskies still spawn and is within the First Nations at Curve Lake traditional hunting ground. Nogies Creek is an important area for local wildlife (one of the largest deer yards in Peterborough County) and empties into Pigeon Lake.

Quarry issues related to by-law changes were discussed at the Trent Lakes council meeting on July 15th. See the Lakefield Herald article for details.

You may sign an on-line petition if you would like to voice your concerns about the impact on the environment, safety and security regarding truck traffic, and the economic health of the community because of the development of this quarry.

CFRAD is asking for support through donations to pay for the OMB hearing.
